There’s a fire in the sky, but it’s not from a Dragon. NASA’s Don Pettit captured stunning images of an aurora alongside a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft at the ISS. His timelapse photo shows city lights streaking below, while the sun’s activity lights up green auroras on the horizon.
Auroras light up when solar particles meet Earth’s atmosphere. Pettit often crops the ISS window from his photos. He believes, “When observing Earth, I like the effect of an oval window.” It adds a certain flair compared to the round ones.
But Pettit also humorously admits, “When you are living in a metal can for six months, any window shape is fine.”
