Own a Piece of the Moon?

Is it illegal to own a rock from the moon?

That depends on how it got to Earth.

Over the years, NASA has returned more than 842 pounds of moon rocks to Earth.

These rocks belong to the US government and NASA. It is illegal for private citizens to own these rocks.

Over the years, some of these rocks have been given away to other countries and dignitaries.

And like most things that some people have and others can’t, a black market has developed around these prized dirt particles.

There is one loop hole. If the that precious peace of moon cheese falls to Earth as a meteorite, well, that’s finders keepers.
