Oh, the F-14 Tomcat, the Top Gun superstar and every aviation geek’s dream machine. Designed by Grumman in the early 70s, it’s the jet that just couldn’t decide if it was a fighter or an interceptor and said, “Why not both?” With its swing wings that look like they’re auditioning for a Michael Bay movie and those twin tails, it’s the diva of the skies. This bad boy could take off from an aircraft carrier, hit Mach 2, and still be back in time for dinner. Armed with those AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, it was basically the middle finger to any enemy thinking about getting cocky. Sure, it guzzled fuel like a frat boy at a keg party, and maintenance was a nightmare, but who cared? It looked cool and made Tom Cruise look taller. The Navy retired it in 2006, but it left the kind of legacy only a true rock star could.
